Omotrack were a six-piece pop band active from ~2015 to 2020. As Icelandic children raised in Omorate, Ethiopia, founding brothers Markús and Birkir Bjarnason were unable to speak the local dialect and wrote rap songs to keep themselves entertained. After returning to Iceland, they eventually rounded out the band with a four-piece brass section, turning out upbeat pop tracks like “Hippo Trip” alongside more poignant songs about the injustices they witnessed growing up in a remote African village.
