Sigur Rós is an Icelandic post-rock band known for their ethereal soundscapes, atmospheric compositions, and Jónsi Birgisson’s distinctive falsetto vocals. Formed in 1994 in Reykjavík, they blend classical, ambient and rock influences, with vocals sung in Icelandic or the invented non-linguistic vocalizations they term Vonlenska (“Hopelandic”). “Svefn-g-englar” (roughly, “Sleepwalkers” or “Sleep Angels”) is the lead single on their breakout 1999 album Ágætis Byrjun. This piece utilizes details from photographs I took during my first trip to Iceland in October of 2022 and is the first cantograph I created for the Söngskissur series.
