In 2022 I visited Iceland for the first time and was enthralled by its magic; it felt at once otherworldly and familiar (perhaps ancestrally so). I became intrigued with the idea of applying my unique art form to the music of this special island, from its medieval versified sagas to its contemporary classical compositions and the many eras and genres between. Söngskissur: Icelandic Song Sketches was conceived as a visual serenade to the country that captured my heart.
The proposed exhibition comprises 33 wall-hanging works of varying mediums (including assemblage, stained glass, digital art and photographic collage), representing multiple categories of Icelandic music. Individual pieces range in size from 12″ x 12″ x 0.5″ (30 cm x 30 cm x 1 cm) to approximately 24″ x 24″ x 4″ (45 cm x 45 cm x 10 cm), with a total of 300 square feet (28 square meters) required for optimal configuration. Works and presentation media are expected to be complete by December 2024.
