“Pagan Poetry” is a haunting, intimate track by Björk, released in 2001 as the second single from her album Vespertine. With its themes of sacrifice and transformation — bordering on the ritual — through love, the song is widely regarded as one of her most vulnerable and daring works. The video, featuring footage of body piercings and sexual intimacy, is notoriously controversial and was banned by MTV at the time of its release.
